South Manchester Credit Union has been helping people transition to a greener lifestyle since 2022. Our Green Loan has been used to buy green products such as bicycles, garden tools, greenhouses and electric cars. Keith fitted a new front and back door and Marie upgraded her boiler and fitted new radiators. We want to help more people to make energy efficiency improvements to their homes and to generate their own green electricity so our Green Loan can now fund insulation, boiler controls, windows, solar panels, heat pumps and more.
As a new member of staff at South Manchester Credit Union, my role is to explore retrofit, find out what it means for homeowners and how we can support people to improve their homes. There is so much information out there, so where do you start? I plan to write a blog focusing on green and retrofit issues to help you on your journey to net zero.
The Centre for Sustainable Energy’s has a great definition of Retrofit, and for additional impartial information visit People Powered Retrofit and the Energy Saving Trust. The Greater Manchester: Do things differently for the environment website is packed full of ideas for a greener lifestyle.
So if you don’t have enough funds to make green and retrofit changes, speak to us about our Green Loan of £500 – £10,000, over 5 years at 8.8% APR. Or open a Dream Saver account to save towards your goals. We offer trusted community finance, aligned with the Green Home Finance Principles.
We’re committed to learning what works for people, so we’re excited to be working with People Powered Retrofit on their RenoCOOP project. The project aims to make home renovations simpler, smarter and more community-driven. My role is to find 3 homeowners to host a Home Energy Party to help you, your friends and neighbours identify where the cold seeps in and learn how to make homes warmer, healthier and more energy efficient.
